My daughter is finishing up her first year at Tisch. We knew she would not qualify for any need-based scholarships but, a few weeks before she got her acceptance, she was urged by her department to file the FAFSA (the office actually called us at home to tell us file the FAFSA). We filed it (with an EFC of 99999). About a week or so after her acceptance she got a Fedex envelope informing her that she had been awarded a Rudin Scholarship (not need based, completely merit based, and $20,000 a year!). Looked on line and that scholarship is designated for kids from NYC public and parochial schools. So, you never know.
