My son is now a sophomore at Emerson. The audition process to get into schools was fascinating. His reactions varied from "I hate this place", or "I don't like these people" to the one at Emerson: "That was fun. I'd love to do that again." They emphasized that you should not think about what they want and please them, but be true to yourself. This philosophy seems central to their approach. They also said that they also were looking for your collaboration with the pianist.

As to the cut policy.... As an outside observer this year, it didn't seem
like a lot of fun. I don't know if the two cut really expected it, but other students didn't.
