| Hello, everyone. Please understand that what I am about to say is not intended to be rude, it is just honest.
First of all, yes, many BFA Musical Theater majors were cast in the MUSICALS at IU this year. Only one BFA MT made one of the SIX other straight plays at IU this year. We do eight mainstage shows a year. Only two of them are musicals which (as it appears to be) are predominantly musical theater majors.
As for receiving "special treatment"... isn't that the point of the BFA program? We auditioned for the program that we are in. I don't deny that we receive special treatment.
As far as not getting any theater experience - there are several productions yearly put on at IU aside from the mainstage season. First semester there were two musicals (one Union Board show and one University Players show) aside from the mainstage season that featured theater majors as well as voice majors...etc.
There are tons of performing opportunities in straight acting and musical theater at IU... none of which are exclusively for BFA musical theater students. |
