From what I've heard, Miami of Ohio's strength is in humanities and social science.

I looked up ABET's website (accreditation of engineering programs) for Miami of Ohio and Pitt.

Pitt's civil engineering program has been accredited since 1936. Miami of Ohio does not have an ABET accreditation for their civil engineering program...their mechanical engineering program was just accredited in 2005.

If you want to do engineering, I would choose Pitt despite the poorer environment.
