Hi everyone, this is my first time posting...I guess I have just been a "stalker" reading everyone's posts for the longest time. My D has accepted an offer and we have sent in a deposit to American University. She was given a Dean's Scholarship for $18000 a year plus some additional financial aid in the form of loans. We still have to come up with a substantial amount but are waiting on some promising outside scholarships. I am keeping my fingers crossed, while still planning for the fact that they may not come through.

I have a S in the local community college so this was my first foray into the Big world of colleges and universities. What a stressful time this has been...and an eye opener. My D is in the top 2% of her class with a 4.07 weighted/3.93 unweighted GPA, excellent EC's and reccomendations and huge amounts of volunteer/leadershipwork over the years, plus is an AmeriCorps member. So I believe that that combination got her into American with the scholarship since they are very much into community service.

She was also accepted to Brandeis, St. John's, Drexel and BU. However, the first three she applied to because the apps were free an she figured why not. She also applied to BC (waitlisted), Johns Hopkins (waitlisted), Villanova (waitlisted), Georgetown (denied), Vassar (denied), and William and Mary (denied). She was really disappointed about Vassar, and we kind of new Georgetown was a reach, but no hurt in trying.

She is really excited about American though because she has always dreamed of being in DC, so I am excited for her. She is a great kid, more than anyone could ask for in a child, and we are really, really close. So needless to say I am going to be going through some very rough times when she leaves. We live about 4.5 hours aways, so it isn't too far, but far enough. I am so happy for her though and I know that American and being in DC is going to open many doors for her and I know she will excel. The reality of the whole school search/wait/results was rough though because we had very high hopes with her stats and all, but everyone is saying how this year's graduating class has been the most competitive class in a long time, so I feel very fortunate for what she was offered. I believe that God has put her where He wants her and I cannot wait to see the person she becomes.

So congrats to all!!!
