I'm a fifth generation Californian too...but I left in the 80's to be with my dh. I don't know if people still do this, though I have no real doubt that they do. Whenever there was an earthquake, people would go into the street after it ended to discuss what Richter # that one was. Down on Point Loma where I used to live, it would usually turn into a party so good that the aftershocks weren't even felt. Shake, rock 'n' roll!
