It's been interesting as it's worked that way for my D too. As long as she did things that supported the school orchestra and put a feather in the teacher's cap all was well. Not supportive or interested about auditions, career path, etc. Just interested if it threatened to take anything away from his orchestra. Thank goodness for her private teacher who was extremely invested and happy for her.
