I agree with the posters who think taking both (Latin and French/Spanish) is a good idea. It really does help learning the other language, and it's worth it. I think Latin is good if you like languages, and it does help with roots, although one could pick that up without Latin. I took Latin and Spanish at the same time, but I started Latin after several years of Spanish. I personally think Spanish is easier to learn than French.
