| For what it's worth, my S has had received a departmental scholarship (not CALS though) for the last three years. He did not receive notice that he would be getting the scholarship until sometime in June (2 weeks after high sch. graduaution). They tell you in the awards letter how much the scholarship is worth. It varies from dept. to dept and there is usually a minimum gpa you must maintain to keep the scholarship. S's scholarship requires 3.2 minimum gpa.
You never actually see the money unless it exceeds the cost of attendance (unlikely) in which case you get a refund. The money goes straight into your account at the NCSU Cashier's office during the summer. It is then applied to the balance you owe for the coming semester. The bill from NCSU will show how much you owe after the scholarship money has been applied. |
