| Yay!!! For everyone headed to orientation (students and parents), spend some time reading online about the math placement and how the results are interpreted into what class you should register for. I was SO frustrated as a parent, going through the parent orientation meetings, because there were SO MANY questions about this, and it goes in quite a bit of detail on UMD's site. You'll find out how you did at your meeting with your academic advisor at orientation, and that drives what math class you should take. If you have AP credit for Calculus AB or BC, that will drive your placement, superceding your placement test. However, I've seen it stated here on CC several times, I don't see a lot of value fighting to take a higher class that you are "placed" in. You don't need to put yourself in a position to be overwhelmed by your math class, right out of the shoots. D is a math/science geek; she's unofficially tutored several people on her dorm floor this year -- and has encountered several desperate souls. It's not worth it! |
