| Alright, i think you guys are forgetting something.
The reason why all of this "racial bloc voting" is so obvious right now is because we are dealing with two candidates who are running on VIRTUALLY THE SAME platform. This will be much less of a problem when there are substantive differences between the two candidates (and i think we can all agree that the democrats and the republicans have some BIG differences this election).
We also must note that the voters who make up Hillary's base, women, white working class, are much more aligned with the democratic stance on the Iraq war, the economy, and health care. Once they exit petty competition mode they will realize that Barack is far better than any republican for president, especially one that wants to "stay the course" in Vietna- I mean Iraq...
Finally if Hillary were to get the nod, she HAS to win the delegate count. She can't get by on just the popular vote. Why? Because you can't let black voters and young voters feel like the nomination was stolen from them. Especially among black voters, this would confirm their suspicion that the party does not work for them. NO democrat has ever won the presidency without carrying the black vote since the civil rights movement.
Clinton supporters can be reeled back into the party with the issues if given enough time, but black supporters of Obama would be dealt a possibly irreparable blow if their candidate won by the party rules and then the Clintons were allowed to change them. |
