| Interesting, while the individual institutions of the Ivy League are academic institutions, we only know them as the Ivy League becasue of athletics. In fact, the first sentence of the Joint Statement on Common Ivy Group Admissions Procedures is: "The Ivy Group is an association of eight institutions of higher education, established in 1954 primarily for the purpose of fostering amateurism in athletics." So while the schools are primarily academic institutes you can't deny the fact that athletics are an integral part of their mission. |
