The vast of the time economics will not be under the purview of the business school. The application of mathematical models from economics is the foundation of finance, but the study of economics is not the study of business.

Economics is not a business major, unless it is applied to finance (financial economics) or industrial organization. Economics is no different than any other social science, it's just generally more quantitative. It's all research like pretty much every other academic discipline that isn't preprofessional.
