| I live in a rural area where it is very sad to say that I have seem grandmothers, with their children and their grandchildren paying with WIC. In this area it is not uncommon to see that everytime you go shopping. It is a never ending cycle. It is even sadder to hear children take pride in the fact that my Mom had me when she was 15, and thus, it is no biggie in the family that she got pregnant when she was 14. One time last year at my DS's middle school when a child asked me how old I was and I said 42...wow your old, my Mom isn't even 30! Figure it out, her Mom would only be 33 when her child graduates...if the daughter was going to grad., since she was already pregnant in Middle School. I asked how did she expect to survive..."it's okay I'll live with Mom and she will take care of the baby, plus the state will pay for the baby. What about the Dad? He already told me he wasn't the father so I don''t care if he is a part of the baby's life!
Very sad is all I can say, and very uncomfortable to think that they have rationalized how nothing is wrong/abnormal with what is occurring! |
