My son is on the waitlist and he's not optimistic or hopeful at all. But I am! He turned down Dartmouth to go to Penn State's Honors College, but he'll go to Harvard if admitted. I also called the admissions office to make sure he was confirmed on the waitlist and the woman who I spoke to was very nice.
