Both my Euro and U.S. History teachers have been grading AP essays for a long time, and they said that the best way to cite them is to put something like "(Doc. A)" after referring to information found in them in your essay. I did not blatantly point them out; I didn't say "Document A says that..." I integrated information from them into my essay in a natural manner. I know I aced my Euro DBQ last year, and that's how I did it, so I imagine I'll be fine.
