Don't they have Math 102 now, for Econ majors? It's basically just covers concepts from 103 necessary for Economics.

In terms of writing, there isn't a concentration per say, but you will definitely find a lot of classes centered on doing extensive research and writing. My roommate has had 2 classes now where she's written like, 40+ page research papers analyzing everything from urban economics and poverty and whatnot, one of which she is considering revising for publication.
