Liberate: not according to the numbers; there is another thread where it gives the # of people from each state who attend......New York has 3X the numbers (and you have your own admissions rep.....NJ shares theirs...))))

anecdotal story: My D has at least 10-20 friends from NY who were admitted with lower everything: UMGPA and stats than she has........less AP's, less EC's....."supposedly" higher ranked high schools....not sure if this is an overall pattern for the state, but it does say something...Umich loves NY kids...can't deny that.......Many parents in NY have said that UMich is a "safety" to NY suburban kids; around here,(NJ) only the tippy top kids have been accepted......weird, yea, I know......

BTW, in reference to your question, I need to add something, so you don't think I'm just venting: I do believe that you should have an equal chance from NY and NJ; I don't think there should be that much of a difference...I have a strong feeling (as does my D's guidance office) that for some reason, UMich does not see the students from the two states equally.....They have changed the NJ admissions person a number of times over the past few years and, according to our guidance office, that is when admissions stats started to fall off around here...not sure why though; still a mystery.......(and UMich does not seem to prioritize NJ either by sticking the apps with a person who already has other states to deal with.....)
