Agree with others. This was a pretty easy decision for me for Duke engineering over Michigan. I grew up a Michigan fan as my dad, uncle, and older sister all went there. I visited many many times, went to lots of football games, and really love UMich, but, to me, the individual attention and the resources Duke gives its students outweigh Michigan students by a tremendous amount. Better for job placement, grad school placement, research opportunities, etc. And I thought I'd be challenged more outside the engineering curriculum. I even received a $10,000/yr scholarship to UMich (although admittedly I also got some fin aid from Duke). I'd only choose Umich personally if you were interested in an engineering major that Duke doesn't offer (e.g. aeronautical). Michigan's engineering school is much larger so they have a lot more departments. I also got into IL engineering (in-state) and chose Duke over that as well. I probably would have chosen Michigan over Columbia (and maybe even Penn) if I didn't get into Duke, but I'm a sports fanatic so that was a key tipping point for me. But Duke basketball games are even better than Michigan football games - and I've been to many UMich football games as well as Duke b-ball. It seems like the 7k more a year for Duke would be well worth it...Ann Arbor is a nicer city than Durham though....but a lot colder too!

Edit: Just saw that you're interested in BME - then it's NO COMPARISON in my opinion. Duke, definitely.
