I'm a senior and I'm taking 5 AP classes this year. I thought it was manageable even in first semester with college applications and basketball season. But it all depends on how well you can manage your time, how efficient you are at absorbing the material, etc.

I'm taking biology this year and I did not spend any time on it after school besides cramming the day before the tests/quizzes. This may not be the best indicator of the workload, since we basically get preprinted lecture notes and we just have to copy down information from the powerpoint.

As for AP US History (APUSH at my school), it was the class I regret not having taken the class. We have a superb APUSH teacher who just loves teaching and the kids, and my friends who took it have told me it was the defining class for their high school career.
