| Many people find horrible stories (when they're not about them or people they care about) much more interesting than nice stories, so of course you're going to hear them more often. Moreover, once you have a general idea of what typical behavior is for a group of people, you're more likely to notice information that supports your beliefs.
If you want to rush, rush. If the women don't seem like nice people, go find nice people somewhere else. Otherwise, choose a sorority that you think would be a good fit for you. If you have unpleasant experiences during pledging, quit and go find nice people who won't do those things somewhere else. If, after pledging, you find out that you don't like life in that sorority, quit and go live a life you like doing something else.
I suppose that it's possible that everyone involved in Greek life today is just a horrible person. I don't know any Greeks so I don't know any nice ones. But I think it is more likely that people in sororities, like people everywhere, are a pretty diverse bunch in many ways, but that the more outrageous ones are the ones who get talked about. |
