Often, the difference is even much more than that. I've seen one way tickets cost twice as much as a round trip (with the outgoing legs identical) even though you're only purchasing half the amount of travel. Makes no sense, but with logic like that behind their business models it's hardly a wonder the airlines aren't doing so hot.
