The problem of triples arises every year. So its an old saw....not that its false, but its not news. The past 3-4 years Fordham has been white hot on college applications....jumping from 11,000 applications about 6 years ago to over 23,000 last year. That is double. Their retention rate of course can fluctuate from year to year and its very hard to estimate, because it depends not only on what other schools do (admit, deny, waitlist) but also the views and opinions of individual students, now made more complex by financial considerations in a tough economy.

Often the triples become doubles by second semester as kids move on and spaces open up. But I also know some kids who REQUESTED triples sophomore year to be with friends. You get varying views on that. In my view, in a PERFECT world, everyone would be in a nice single, so everyone can get the sleep they need and find some place to shut out the noise or get away from people on your nerves.

I dont know if this year is resulting in more triples or not, but if you ask ResLife, maybe they can tell you.

You will get your roommates names shortly and start the facebook contacts, etc. From my experience, with few exceptions, Fordham does a pretty decent job of putting kids together who "on paper" would look like good matches. Sometimes that doesnt work out, but they do try and often they make really good choices.

CBA for example, is moving towards having Business majors live together and such....so sophomore year they tend to go that way....which can be heartbreaking or stressful for some as close friends who are not in the business college feel like their ideal roommate is being pulled away.

The good thing about the dorms for freshmen at Fordham is that there is a good dichotomy.....good choices....Tierney, Queens, North, South and that unmentioned party dorm (tee-hee)..... HUGHES! So hopefully you made preference selections on your card that fit your lifestyle and interests. For sophomores and upper classmen there are even more choices, including Fordham owned apartments. So you arent stuck in one house for four years. I know one particular top 10 state school where that happens....you are stuck either in a dorm for four years or you pledge to a frat/sorority. Not much choice if you ask me. At Fordham you can move around and find people to your liking each year.

Changing MID-year is frowned upon, unless there are exigent circumstances. But like I said as people drop off ....usually from partying and poor study habits, spaces can open up and triples can become doubles. Then again, some triples prefer to stay as triples. So there you go.

Get ready to rumble, folks! Its almost time! Its going to be LOTS of fun. But also LOTS of work. Fordham gives out LOTS of homework. DONT FALL BEHIND, because its KILLER to catch up...as things heat up as the semester progresses. And DONT over party, because it will affect your grades, your health AND your safety. Trust me on that. Happens EVERY year.

Eat right, get LOTS of sleep, do your homework EARLY in the day, and you will be fine.

Good luck and WELCOME to the Fordham Family! Go Rams! Football Schedule is out by the way: Open at home against Rhode Island. This years Parents Weekend is Yale!

Schedule: Rhode Island, Colgate, Yale (parents weekend), Lafayette, Marist and Georgetown. Away vs. Dayton, Columbia, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Bucknell.

Got tickets? Your ID gets you in free this year at Jack Coffey Stadium!
