College Discussion - View Single Post - Speech Communication considered an Academic subject?

Most schools that I want to apply to require recommendations from 2 academic teachers. One of the teachers I asked to write my recommendation was my Speech Communication teacher. But do colleges consider Speech Communication an academic subject, or do they view the same as they view non-academic classes such as Gym?

In Speech, we get homework, we have to research topics, and we have to write out our own speeches. It requires alot of work just like the core classes- but I don't know if colleges see it that way.

So do you guys think that I will be fine having my Speech Communication teacher write me an academic recommendation?
