Yes, the headboard and footboard were the same height. You just flip both upside down (you have to separate them from the mattress springs first) and then the bed is higher off the ground. You are supposed to return the bed to the original configuration when you move out. I don't know why they don't just leave them higher since that's how all the kids use them anyway. My D was able to put those underbeds drawers underneath. Her room in Armstrong had an actual closet, but in Morgan it was a separate "wardrobe" for each girl and no closet.
