Many colleges have ways to get a free application. We got one from Clark for going for a visit, Fordham and Drew with an "apply early" applicaiton in the mail, Wheaton, if we applied online, Marist was the same and Holy Cross if you went to an open house. Every year might be different, but I only paid for Conn college and our state school. There were others, he thought were a reach that also offered free applications in the mail. Just be careful not to delete or throw out what looks like just another pitch from a college before ignoring it. Also many colleges don't advertise the free application if you don't ask....a few I found out about through this site but other students applied to the school and paid.
