For the record, I have friends who are hetero, gay, bi, trans, and queer. I don't choose my friends by their sexual orientations, but by whether they share my values, particularly my values around nonviolence.
I think that gays should have the same rights that heteros have.
I wish that the U.S. would follow France's example and make the legal aspects of marriage something that only the state determines. In France, to be legally married, one must have a nondenominational ceremony at a mayor's office. If one wants a church wedding, one must have it after the civil ceremony.
As far as I'm concerned, churches should be able to marry whomever they choose, but the government should be responsible for determining the legality of marriages, and the government should offer gay couples the same rights to have civil marriages as hetero ones have.
