Interesting post - can't reply to the hotel living thing or the acting classes but as far as dating goes - get on the metro!
You've got BC, BU, Harvard, Northeastern, etc, etc. all within the public transportation systems and, not only can you visit their college events, parties, and "hang-outs", they can visit yours. Boston is the biggest college town in the country, college students are everywhere. I bet it won't be long before you figure out where all the college kids go on Friday night or whatever.
