Last year, 6,357 applied. This year, as I just heard while helping out with an information session this past Saturday, about 5,700 applied. Yes, this is the first year in a long span when applications went DOWN!
It seems, though, that other colleges are experiencing comparable declines. Most blame the poor economy; students are applying to only those schools they're seriously considering because of steep application fees.
Yes, we are still stepping up efforts to recruit more widely (see:
Local Leadership for Admissions Outreach), but it'll take time to see if our efforts are worthwhile.
