Awesome-I’m graduating from the University of Mary Washington. What college are you attending? By the way, you’re talking about TJ the magnet school, right?
Hopesalive-group houses with available rooms are easiest to find on craigslist.com. If you go under “wash dc” and click “rooms/shared” under housing you will find many. The only negative aspect I would say, is that most of these houses have very few bathrooms (they are old for the most part). They were built for families so a lot of the time you might have 4-5 bedrooms and only one bathroom. But if you’re willing to work with it, you can find a good deal.
There is also another way you can go. They also have dorm style housing in dc, where visiting interns, international students/interns and people re-locating to dc share rooms in a house together. There are like…two bunk beds per room or something so its very much like a dorm….but they charge you by the week, or you can rent for the month or two months and they give you a nice discount. They will also give you a discount if you are a student (I think you need to show them a passport and student ID). Also, everything is furnished here….you really need nothing. They provide you with towels/linens, public computers with internet, washer/dryer, cable, free long distance calling, free car parking and more.
Below is the website for the one I’m talking about. Hope this helps.
