^I'd definitely follow Anonymous' advice as far as keeping a copy and re-opening another one to revise (if you want). I would strongly recommend not using this essay at safety schools, if you are more concerned about getting into college than sharing your story. But, since it is risky, it may be advisable to use this at extreme reaches (if you have them). I've heard stories of where top colleges admit mediocre students just because of an amazingly powerful essay. So that's something to consider, because a college adcom may view it as one of those must-admit essays.
And I agree with choklit rain. This is definitely apt for a memoir. But maybe not a college application essay.
