you can most certainly write to her! I remember "mail call" was the best part of the day, especially if you got multiple letters and it was a bonus if you got a carepackage! Losing sleep to be able to go to the "head" (aka bathroom) at night to read the letters (since day time provided me no time at all to do that) was well worth it - I would re-read many of the letters I received over plebe summer.
