There are a number of agencies which accredit various aspects of medical schools.

The hospitals are accredited by the Joint Commission, the residency programs by the ACGME, and the schools themselves by the LCME.

The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) administers the USMLE as part of the process that physicians must complete to practice without supervision.

The AAMC is a collection of the 125 US Allopathic medical schools (and the canadian schools). It's a lobbying organization as well as serving as an advisory committee for the direction of the medical schools and issues they face. It also administers the MCAT, as well as runs the AMCAS and ERAS application services for students applying to medical school or residency programs respectively.

The NRMP administers the Match which places new physicians (and some old ones) into residency and selected fellowship programs.

That covers all the acronyms I can think of right now...
