The practical issue with adultery was the same (pregnancy), if the other woman is young and unmarried. If the other woman was married, it would be a huge offense against her husband - remember how male-focused society was at the time. Now, the problem with adultery is the violation of the marraige vows or social contract in a monogamous romantic relationship. What you're saying is more like a theological basis for it, which wasn't necessary in the past and isn't as convincing to the average person today.
