Many schools will simply reduce your aid by the amount of the award, netting you exactly zero for all that work.
That's very true... A lot of time you have to have your scholarships total above your need (COA - EFC) to make a difference. Georgia Tech was one of those schools - taking back scholarships they would have otherwise given me because I was expecting a hefty Air Force Scholarship - the deadline for that was around December of my Senior year...
