I have since read that the "mocking" she refers to was someone photo-shopping an adult male's head onto Trig's body in a picture of Palin holding the baby. The obvious intent was to mock her relationship with the adult male.
Whether doing so using a picture of her and her baby is in good taste is a matter of opinion, I suppose. Certainly, cartoons of adults depicted as babies have been a stock in trade of political satire for centuries. Only recently has it been possible to use a real baby picture as the basis, though. Personally, I think that using her baby as the model is in poor taste. I admit that the fact that he has Down Syndrome makes it in even worse taste to me. Perhaps I can be chastised for not treating individuals with DS as equals, but I think that the vulnerability makes a difference. I think kids are off limits. (IMHO, Bristol changed that for herself when she sold her baby pictures to People magazine and courted publicity. To the earlier poster who demanded to know why there hasn't been similar coverage of the Obama girls: perhaps because neither of them has gotten pregnant out of wedlock, participated in a big public announcement of such, and sold pictures to People?)
