perhaps not refining essays, but i think it's still a good idea to write essays. You can probably apply some of the ideas to a new essay topic - I don't think what MIT really wants to know about you is going to change from year to year.
just me though. I know I have a hard time coming up with ideas quickly, so the more brainstorming I do now, the easier it'll be later.
question though - while I know what Matt said in his email isn't definite, how probable do you think major essay changes are? [whole new questions, not tweaks to current questions] like, does admissions say this every year just to give them the option to change the essays, or is this unusual for an admissions officer to say?
