Any of the 5 on campus dorms for freshman will be great- every year they have a different make-up/vibe but the the dorms on the campus create a very close freshman experience Hopefully, Santa Catalina which is on the edge of campus- huge and an entity all its own is not the one assigned, but as long as you don't get the over flow "private dorms", Tropicana and Fountainblue, it will be fine. Those private dorms are not UCSB dorms , and not filled with only UCSB students. That would be less than ideal- lus they are located smack in the middle of IV- which for a freshman might be a bit much until settled into college.
