And all this from a large, urban school district that has been steadily decimated for 30 years by "white flight" (which is still pervasive and now takes form in an amazing growth of private schools within the city). Luckily, magnet schools have been strongly funded and our performing arts high school is seen as one of the jewels in the crown of fine arts for the city (although it still has to work hard at fundraising).
