S found a sublet--2nd bedroom in an apt--in Crystal City through Craigslist for his internship this winter. It worked out very well. There always seem to be tons of house/apt sharing situations and sublets in the DC area on Craigslist, because so many young people live there and spend periods of time ranging from a few months to a few years away, but want to hold onto their residence.
Skype enables people to "interview" each other face to face, which is quite helpful.
