Decision: Deferred

Objective:
  • SAT I (breakdown): 2340 (800R 800M 740W), 2140 (690R 760M 690W)
  • ACT: None
  • SAT II: 800s (Math II, Bio, Physics), 770 US
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.88 (rising trend)
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): N/A, but I know I’m top 10% because of Cum Laude
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): Bio (5), APUSH (5), Calc AB(5), Compsci (5), English Lit (4), Calc BC (5), Euro (5), Physics B (5)
  • IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
  • Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics C, AP English Lang, AP Stats, AP Spanish Lang, Compsci 3, Multivariable calc (kind of like an introductory course), 2d Studio Art
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing major, but the usual NMSF, AP derps, and some more unimportant awards in math and art
Subjective:
  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Math Team (President), Tennis (JV and Varsity), Art Society, Political Club (President)
  • Job/Work Experience: None
  • Volunteer/Community service: 100+ hours library (lead volunteer)
  • Summer Activities: 2 Summers of Biochemistry Research (sent research paper to Yale), Tennis, Painting and Mix Media classes
  • Essays: Common App Essay: Amazing
    Short Essay: Good
Yale Supplemental Essay: Amazing but I had a typo XD
    Why Yale: Derp
Why Engineering: Derp (Not bad, but this is where I could have improved the most)
  • Teacher Recommendation: Probably amazing
  • Counselor Rec: Amazing
  • Additional Rec: Pretty Good, I think.
  • Interview: It went pretty well
Other
  • Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
  • Intended Major: BME
  • State (if domestic applicant): OH
  • School Type: small (<90 per grade) private, “Competitive” (Sends about 6 kids to top 10 schools, but I think we’re pretty derp)
  • Ethnicity: Asian
  • Gender: Male
  • Income Bracket: 100,000+ (single child, two parents)
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My good looks :P
Reflection
  • Strengths: Some essays, Recs
  • Weaknesses: Lack of awards, Why engineering essay, and race. GPA could be a bit higher too.
  • Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I’m pretty average on paper for a Yale applicant, and I could have written a better why engineering essay. Also, there were a couple things that people didn’t get from my app.
General Comments:
Good Luck! Read your essays out loud to see any typos.
