flute1298, that makes sense. Since there are "zillions" of flute players it is unlikely that a student auditioning with CD or DVD will get in. Based on your observations, my daughter could perhaps send in a CD to some places on oboe. But on saxophone, which is something like flute, she had better come in person.
Scholarships are another issue.
