mika: When I give info sessions for my HYP alma mater, I tell students/families that in today's hyper-competitive applicant pool, if they find themselves to be among the handful of top scholars of their HS class -- and known as such by the faculty and the principal (trust me, they do talk among themselves) -- then they might be a viable applicant. Even if they are, they must make sure they cast a wide net of target schools.
HYP are hovering around a 7% admit rate these days.
Best of luck overcoming your difficulties w/French but FYI: future viable Princeton applicants are coralling 3.9/4.0 GPAs in the most rigorous courses right now as freshmen.
