Before my daughter went to Columbia in the fall alumni/students in our area also hosted a summer kick-off to college in August. It was an informal gathering at a park and we were able to get a lot of answers to our questions. It was also nice speaking to the upperclassmen and seeing what they had accomplished regarding internships, studying abroad, etc.
