There is plenty of research documenting the safety and non-toxicity of piracetam.I'd suggest you do a google search on this,or Wikipedia it up. (Wikipedia articles have links to reputable sources). Also, it has been shown to improve cognition in certain cases.

Yes, it is no Adderall, but at least it's legal and much safer.

Point is though - we need drugs that help either improve:
a) motivation
or b) attention span/concentration.

A lot of anti-Alzheimer's drugs that aren't controlled do help with both. Unfortunately, I spent too much money on herbal supplements and my parents aren't going to let me buy deprenyl. *sigh*

In any case, if I can recall correctly, drugs like piracetam help improve memory the most... But things like memory and wakefulness (modafinil is uber-good with that respect) are a lot easier to manipulate than intelligence.

I like erowid.org, but unfortunately, the community is more interested in getting high than in studying for long binges.
