| It REALLY depends on the tone/voice of the essay. While such a life experience is genuinely important and formative for the individual, it is also such a common phenomenon that the essay topic itself is generally overdone. It's not unlike the "I travelled abroad and learned that all people are wonderful (or: learned that the U.S. is both unique and great, yet flawed, or...)" essay.
Yours can be a great essay topic, but it REALLY depends on the presentation. It would help to know what type of disability you overcame. Example: One could write a very humorous essay about being a short, fat basketball player. But I somehow think that is not what you have written.
