My sister was diagnosed with dyslexia in fourth grade, when we had just come back from living abroad. The school that we had gone to before was much less challenging than the school that we came back to. My sister could barely read, and she almost failed fourth grade. She ended up at a school for learning disabilties, and she now loves books more than anyone I know!

When my family first moved to live abroad, I was extremely shy. I did not talk at all during pre-K and part of kindergarten. My teachers knew that I was capable of doing the work, and I did learn without participating, but they did not know what to do about my problem.

It is possible that your daughter cannot read because she needs to be taught in a different way. She might have dyslexia, or it could just be that she is having trouble adjusting or that she is not yet confident in her abilities. Your post leads me to think that your daughter has similar problems to the ones that my sister had. What makes you think that it is not dyslexia?
