| No we have a special class for engineers which is in C++ that is EAS 230. Everybody who takes our Class CSE115 which is CS1 is a CS or comp engineering major. There are also Physics, applied math and other computational majors that require the CSE 115 and 116 which are cs1 and cs2. All majors that require this make ya take CS1(115) and CS2(116).
We also have classes called into to CS for non majors which is 113 and 114. people in Business and media study s as well as other non science majors take these and they are drastically easier.
My school has close to 30K students, many students come into CSE thinking they will learn how to assemble computers or something like that. Ive been in 3 schools and it has always been the same. People don't really know what CSE is.
I don't think it is the schools poor selection, if you are qualified to get into the school then it really doesn't matter what the major is. This is why so many people choose CSE and have no clue what it is.
as for the 800 students at a school as big as mine, I dont see how it could even be doubted. 800 people from
Cs
Comp E
Computational Physics
Computational Bio
computational Chem
Applied Math
Also there are graduate students in it.
with people from all these majors, it is expected to have a large first class.
People drop because it is hard and not what they expect. But I loved it and the teachers were great. Some of the Best Intro CS professors I have ever seen. |
