My D auditioned in Watertown. Where did you audition? She had a pretty good time at Conference last year despite being sick with bronchitis the whole time. She says she was lucky to get in once (she is the first to get to all-state from her school in the last 10 years and one of only 2 total in our county this past year).

I don't know what your musical resumes are like but we live in a VERY rural area and my D has quite limited musical opportunities. Her All-State experience and NYSSMA scores will stick out on her apps because frankly there is not much else to report. We are fortunate that she is applying for Music Ed so that she has her academic record for consideration as well. I will keep my fingers crossed for you too Operasinger2000 as I will for my D. The thing she liked best about All State was "when I got there for once I wasn't the biggest music geek around. Everyone was just like me." Besides living in a very rural area our school covets sports way more than the arts or even education. Both my D's take a lot of flack for not being sporty. My youngest D has even been called lazy by her peers for not being in a sport even though she takes 9-11 hours a week of dance classes.

So don't undervalue the All State experience or the value of it on a college app. If there is not much else to go by then it is important to admissions. Yes, the audition is paramount but not everyone shares the same musical opportunities. We cannot even find an appropriate private teacher for my D in this area.
