My S was on another forum for kids going to SAs and one of the kids mentioned that his parents had paid the deposit, etc. for his 2nd choice school just in case he didn't make it through BCT. That way, they figured, he'd still have a shot at "regular" college. Have any of you parents done or considered that? For a few hundred dollars, it seems like a good safety net, but it also seems very defeatist in attitude. One of those "I'm expecting you to fail at this" so here's a back up plan.
I'll admit, I've thought about it, but am on the fence about whether to do it w/o telling son or to discuss it with him.
